Look, I know what y’all are thinking.
“How white do you have to be to make scones?”
But before you get all caught up in discounting your British side, try these.

As my “hunk of man” (thanks, Dave) remarks:
“Excellent texture and crumb, a hint of moisture and it is absolutely decadent. A perfect sweetness on the icing to pair with the orange hints. All around a fantastic scone.”

I’m not going to lie, I hate when bloggers ramble on for a book and a half about their life story and then finally post their recipe at the bottom of the page. So, without further ado…
Orange Scones with White Chocolate Drizzle
Written by The Wildflour
Yields 13 scones
Prep time: 20 min
Bake time: 10 min
1 3/4 c Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 Gluten-Free Baking Flour
3 1/2 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
6 T cold butter, cut into cubes
Juice of half an orange, plus zest of a whole orange
1 large egg
1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
4-5 T half-and-half
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk together dry ingredients in large bowl, then cut in the cold butter with a pastry cutter (a potato masher also works). The mixture should be dry and crummy.
- Beat egg, half-and-half, vanilla, orange zest and juice together in a separate bowl.
- Add to dry ingredients and mix until dough forms. The dough should be a smooth ball, but not too wet or dry.
- If too dry, add more half-and-half. If too wet, add more flour.
- Separate dough into 2 disk shapes and pat until about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch thick. Cut into triangles.
- Brush scones with thin layer of half-and-half and bake for approximately 10 minutes, watching bottoms carefully.
- If you want your scones to rock, melt a small amount of white chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and drizzle over the pastries when they are cool using a piping bag (or Ziplock bag with a cut corner). With the chocolate still wet, sprinkle dehydrated orange zest over their tops (I dehydrated the zest in the oven at a low heat to ensure they could be dry enough to sprinkle evenly). Enjoy!
